Spring leads to autumn

Summer went by and I thought I’d post some pictures of what me and the horses have been up to.

Esperança is making improvements

Esperança has been a bit tricky as she easily tenses up with a rider. If the footing is a bit slippery or she has excess energy, she tenses up her back and becomes a “leg mover”. We have worked a lot on relaxing the back and working in walk to get her to move correctly through her body. She makes good progress, and I will try to take her to a bigger arena to see how she will do with a bigger area to stretch her legs, where there also is good footing.

Finorio has also been going through huge changes this summer. Not only in his body, but he has been backed and we are well on our way to turn him in to a riding horse.

Starting to look older

Finorios main issue has been a pretty huge under neck. His neck has been of a bigger size than the rest of his body for a while and it seems like he has been using his under neck for balancing the rest of his body. I borrowed a couple of vienna side reins from a friend and managed to get a really good outline in his body in just two sessions. After those sessions it looked like he managed to change his balance and let go of his under neck. This was really evident by the first ride i took after only working him in hand and in the lunge for a while.

I have also been riding Sigi from time to time. Just love that horse. Here are some pictures from a joust training weekend.

I hope I will be able to keep up with our trainig in this blog. I find it to be a great way of looking back at where we have been, and the development of the horses and myself.
